Red Boy Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybe Cubensis Red Boy) is a rare P. Cubensis strain that produces red spores. It has an interesting documented history where a mycologist by the name of RogerRabbit explains that this strain was popular in the 80s, but has been lost with time. He happened to have a spore print that was dormant for 20 years. His attempt to revive this strain from the spore print was not successful because of its age. The spores would not germinate. RogerRabbit used a special technique of introducing mycelium from a Puerto Rican strain, resulting in a 50/50 cross between Puerto Rican and Red Boy mycelium. To complete the process of reviving, rattle snake venom was added to the mix which weakened the cell walls of the spores and mycelium, allowing for the nucleus of each strain exchange genetic information. This experiment was duplicated multiple times to create a 75% pure strain.

The Red Boy can be described to have round and circular caps and medium to large stems. The cap colours are golden grown to slight red. Most importantly its spores are red to dark burgundy red. There’s been an effort to only promote red spore producing mushrooms but over time it’s been more common to find burgundy spore producing fruits.
